FBX Scale Report

See what unit scale an FBX file declares, before the engine does

Blender add-on · Blender 4.2+ · GPL-3.0-or-later

Reports the unit scale declared inside every FBX file in a folder, and names the ones that are wrong. Reads the files and changes nothing.

What it does

  • Reads the file's own declaration, not what Blender made of it
  • Says what it could not read instead of staying quiet
  • Text, CSV and a self-contained HTML report
  • Works from the command line without Blender, exit code 1 on a broken scale

What it looks like

A report listing five FBX files, each with the unit scale it declares and a verdict of ok.
Every file gets a line: the declared factor, what it means in metres, and whether it is a problem.
A report listing files with broken scales first, marked bad, and a binary file marked unknown.
Problems come first, each with the reason. Binary files are reported as not read rather than skipped.
The same check run in a terminal, ending with exit code 1.
The same code without Blender, and an exit code a build pipeline can read.

Requirements

  • blender 4.2 or newer
  • python 3.9 or newer, for command-line use
  • os Windows, Linux, macOS

What it does not do

Read this before you decide. It is the reason the list above can be believed.

  • It does not fix the scale. Changing a factor is a decision about intent, and a tool that silently corrects it destroys work.
  • It does not read binary FBX. It says so, by name, rather than reporting a file it could not read as fine.
  • It does not modify anything — not the FBX files, not the scene.
